Will sealed generally take more power?

Yes sealed will generally handle more power, but a vented/ported will be more efficient with the powe given to them

For music, yes a small sealed enclosure gives the most power handling (and worst efficiency). But for an SPL setup, ported will actually allow for more power handling because you only run at or near tuning, where cone travel is its lowest.

Thanks y'all. I'm looking at a specific situation, SI's 15" Magnum, or whatever it's about to be called. Haven't found a lot of info on this sub, but I'm interested in seeing how they are changing it up.

If the rms is still rated at 950W, I'll have an amp that's rated at 1200W A 12.5V. My charging system is good, and the amp is an Audiobahn A1300HCX. If they rate this amp right, I'm guessing it may put out around 1300W @14V. I was wanting serious SPL (and SQ), so I thought I'd go with the 4ft @ 28hz box they recomend. Just wondering how much I'll be pusing it and it would compare to sealed....

This is daily for music btw.

Yes. It's how much power the voice coil(s) can take before they toast

Thermal power handling is independent of the box.

even with a ported box run at very high power levels near tuning? I would think that degrades the thermal power handling of the sub, because there is very little to no ventiliation (sp) that cools the voice coils...reduced airflow could lead to more rapid heating...just my silly little observations at 2:22 in the morning, i'm probably wrong.

woofers in ported boxes above tuning have a higher thermal, and mechanical power handling, then the same woofer in a sealed box..
