Will a custom box out perform a premade box?

i'm just curious. If i buy a plain rectangular ported box, and tune it right, will it out perform a custom made box? like i've been readying up and i guess the sound waves bounce and i would think that with a perfectly straight wall on either side...you couldn't go wrong, right?

I always make my own boxes, I never recommend buying a pre-made box. Depending on the install, (brand of subs), I usually try to make at least two different boxes. You'd be suprised at the difference .5 ft/\3 can make. Don't get me wrong though, it takes a lot of math to get the box just right. I usually make the two out of scratch, then use the real stuff for the box that best suits the install. Usually making the extra boxes isn't completely a waste of time, I usually end up selling/giving them anyway. So, go ahead, make your own box, you'll appreciate it more. Ramos seems to be pretty experienced with box making. You might check with him.
