Yes I totally agree selling the car with the equipment especially for that price is stupid. He's certainly not competing in any SPL comps, and I doubt he did any SQ competing. If he did, he would probably know how to remove the equipment and make money off of it.
I'm not saying it is stupid to put a nice system in that car. I'm saying it is stupid to put $6000 worth of equipment and work into an $8000 car unless you plan to do something with it. There are plenty of ways to get great SQ without dropping that kind of cash. Add to that the fact that the owner sold an $8000 car with $6000 worht of add-ons and labor in it for $4500. That IS stupid
We all know that car audio is a bad investment. But not trying to get any of that money back is just assinine. If you weren't going to re-sell the stuff, it would make more sense to buy a $12000 car and put $2000 worth of stereo equipment in it.
As for the flashy part, I think the guy's expensive fiberglass trunk and bodykit kind of nix that argument for ya.
Bottomline: great deal, great car, great equipment, dumb original owner (for a few reasons)
I dont plan on competing except maybe locally and my trunk is in the process of being fiberglassed. I am doing the work myself and I kinda doubt he is but it sounded like you were making a blanket statement. If you werent than Im sorry I took it the wrong way. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Im sure the dad paid for all of it. The kid somehow messed up and the dad wanted to sell it quickly and punish his son is what Im guessing happened.
