wife brought home her new car and its loaded

I'm surprised to see that the previous owner was such an enthusiast with such nice equipement. It's not every day you see someone running all DLS lol and in a Honda to boot. You would think there would have been a pre fab bandpass box with Dual subs in it or something lol. The previous owner had to be a straight up audiophile, because if they just had lots money they wouldn't have been in a Honda. Not to say that Hondas aren't nice cars but my point is the previous owner probably chose that equipment knowing they wanted sound quality. Still wonder why they left that stuff in there, also surprised some people in the dealership didn't help themselves to it.

That's a **** nice install too, only thing I'm not really feeling though is the way the subs mounted, I'd probably just invert the other to have it matching, just my opinion.

i think if you polled peole on this site youd see there are far better systems in far worse cars than civics ha ha again i say whats wrong with civics? extremely reliable and mine gets 40 mpg?
another point i make when talking bout civics are when i traded my 2001 civic with a huge dent, burns in the seats, carpet trashed, 80k miles they gave me 7k on trade for it. my girlfriend tried to trade in her pontiac sunfire with 33k miles, showroom condition and no one would give her more than 3500 trade...... HONDA holds their value a hell of a lot better than domestics
Better than a sunfire yeah. I understand that a lot of people here have good systems in crappy cars. We're pretty much the exception to the rule. But this is very high quality equipment in a cheap daily driver. Not trying to hit high numbers or win any SQ competitions. Just a DD setup.

It would be different if the original owner planned to make it into a showcar. Tons of parts out there for civics.

Any other reason is just stupid. You don't buy a car that blue books for $8000 and throw in $4000 of stereo equipment plus another two grand or more for the custom fiberglass install and body kit. If you're buying a car for the gas mileage, that makes no sense.

As far as reliability goes, there are plenty of cars out there that are as reliable as hondas. Hell, my roomate's 1990 Chevy C/K 1500 has 360,000 miles on it and still runs great, has functional 4wd, etc. Would rather put a big system in a Tahoe than in a civic. Same reliability, gas mileage should be no concern if you can spring that much for stereo equipment, plus you have room for the system without losing all your cargo space.

Plus, Chevy truck hold value and are much cheaper to fix if you need work done.

I normally agree with a lot of what you say but there is a lot of ignorance in this post. To say its stupid is narrowed minded and imo is what is ruining this hobby? How do you know he didnt compete? Why is it stupid to put a system in a vehicle that is half the price of the car? I know I dont have an unlimited budget and would rather drive something non-flashy and reliable with a killer system than something that is worth more. Just my .02 anyways.

Nice car. You should really talk her into keeping it.

He's certainly not competing in any SPL comps, and I doubt he did any SQ competing. If he did, he would probably know how to remove the equipment and make money off of it.

I'm not saying it is stupid to put a nice system in that car. I'm saying it is stupid to put $6000 worth of equipment and work into an $8000 car unless you plan to do something with it. There are plenty of ways to get great SQ without dropping that kind of cash. Add to that the fact that the owner sold an $8000 car with $6000 worht of add-ons and labor in it for $4500. That IS stupid

We all know that car audio is a bad investment. But not trying to get any of that money back is just assinine. If you weren't going to re-sell the stuff, it would make more sense to buy a $12000 car and put $2000 worth of stereo equipment in it.

As for the flashy part, I think the guy's expensive fiberglass trunk and bodykit kind of nix that argument for ya.

Bottomline: great deal, great car, great equipment, dumb original owner (for a few reasons)
