Whatever happened to the widley available fullscreen? Why is everything only available in the widscreen format? I have a fullscreen TV. Cant afford a new widescreen TV, and even if I did, then fullscreen is stretched to fill the widescreen. Its so stupid when I go to rent a DVD I have to rent the widescreen and have the black bars on the top and bottom.

everything is going to digital/hd by either the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 depending on what date congress approves.......and 90% of hd programing is in wide screen.....jus accept it.....nothing u can do to change it....other than rap about it....

many widescreen tv have auto size functions so if your dvd is fullscreen, instead of it being stretched, it will have 2 black bars to the sides to fill the gaps. IMO Fullscreen is much better, gives it that luscious panaramic view and gives you the real "feel" of theatre experience.

WS for the win!

Cable TV is fullscreen last time I checked. It is annoying to see those black bars and I agree there should be a widescreen/fullscreen option on every DVD. However, those greedy bastages need to lower the price on widescreen TV's if they're going to start making widescreen "the standard".

They dont offer both formats on dvds all the time because it costs more money to do so. You cant just choose the screen size and it automatically goto that size, they basically have to put the movie on the dvd twice, one widescreen version and one full screen version. They choose wide cause its the standard now(basically)

When I had a TV that wasn't widescreen, I would still get widescreen movies. Not becuase I don't like the fullscreen effect, but because fullscreen chops off portions of the original theatrical release of the movies. There are too many reasons why I don't like fullscreen. I hate that message which states: "The following feature has been modified from its original theatrical release to fit the dimensions of your television." How bogus can you get.

They do that so you can see the "whole" movie. It would **** seeing only "part" of the movie, wouldn't??
I'm not sure which side of the argument you are speaking about? In the fullscreen version of Ghostbusters at the tower when they meet up with gozer you can't see all of them on the terrace. However, in the widescreen you can. I hate having my movies chopped off at either side. I love my 16:9 43" TV.
