Widescreen DVD's

O no! I fear change!

Widescreen > full screen. Like said, full screen chops off the ends of the picture that were in the original theatrical release.

I agree there should be a widescreen/fullscreen option on every DVD. However, those greedy bastages need to lower the price on widescreen TV's if they're going to start making widescreen "the standard".
I disagree whole heartedly. To fit both apect ratios of the movie on one DVD then they're compressing an already compressed disc far too much. I would rather have the extra space on a disc used for useful things like adding DTS along with Dolby Digital or making it a Superbit DVD. Movies are made originally for the widescreen that you see in theaters NOT for your 4:3 Tv screen. I have an older 31" Tv that is square and I would rather have it letterboxed than full screen. When you make a movie that was originally made for the widescreen and make it 4:3 you are chopping off the sides of the original picture. You are actually losing information on the sides that you would have seen at the theater.

I buy NOTHING but widescreen DVDs because when I finally do get my widescreen HDTV I sure as hell don't want to have to buy a bunch of DVDs all over again.

Man I've have this discussion more times that I can to remember. So many people just don't get that widescreen is so much better. You lose too many details when you view the fullscreen version. In fact, check this out to see comparisons:

Now get this shit. My mom bought a widescreen tv a year or so before me. While up there for Christmas I notice she had a bunch of fullscreen movies. I asked her what was up with that and she said that she hated the black bars! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I told her she has a ****ing widescreen tv! And if she really hates the black bars just use the zoom button and it will get rid of them. Plus the black bars only show up on 2:35 aspect whereas the 1:85 will fill the screen perfectly.

will probably happen when it gets closer to the deadline of everything going digital/hd.......and i agree on the cost thing.....one of the great things about directv tho is the discounts i get from their partners such as phillips, rca, sirus, etc..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I am a widescreen kinda of guy as well. I have a 42" TV in my living room and I ususally play the widescreen movies on there. The one in my bedroom is a 27" and I usually do the full screen in there. Besides **** dosent come in widescreen as much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I have a regular screen TV. The bars on top and bottom don't bother me. I still prefer the wide screen versions. My father-n-law on the other hand HATES widescreen. He says it cuts the top off. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
