Why have an overly large port when a normal sized port will still tune the box to the requency that you would like?

What are the benifits? I mean i saw that blue print of that box for like a 12" A or something and it had a 54" port that took up 3/4 of the entire box?

wtf?

Someone help me out cause i dont get it?

The larger port reduces the chance of any port noise.

The port on the eD box is so long because of the small size of the box and the low tuning freq. The smaller box doesn't have a big peak around the tuning freq. like larger boxes tend to have. Results in a much smoother/flatter response, at the expense of some SPL.

If the port area or "opening" is the same, as a box gets smaller the port length must increase to keep the tuning freq. the same.
