Why is my amp overheating?

I am trying to figure out why my amp is overheating. It is a soundstream rubicon 2500.1. I have my stock battery under the hood and 2 95ah batteries in the back. Big 3. 160 amp alternator. 0 gauge wire. The positive and ground are running straight from the back batteries to the amp. I have a 250amp fuse on the positive side. I thought it was because I had it wired at .5 ohms but I switched it to 2 ohms and it still overheats in like 10 minutes. I have read post where people are running the same amp at .3 and isnt getting that hot. It is in a nice open area and on mounts so air can get to the fan on the bottom. It makes no sense to me. I think the amp may be bad or something. I read somewhere that it may be the speaker wire is not big enough. It is 10gauge. Also I have the bass boost all the way down and the gain is below half. Please help thanks.

Getting a good voltage reading does not mean good power transfer. You could read 13.8v out of a 24 AWG wire. Recheck your amplifier's ground and...

No need to bypass the amp. Most use an LOC that takes the full amped signal and turns it into a flat RCA level signal. Here is the newest I have...

It would also be easy to add an equalizer to have individual rca inputs for all of the channels. A decent one can be had for less than $40...
