Why is my amp over heating?

So I have a pair of the Shelby Kicker 8" door subs going to a Cadence 300.2. The amp puts out 300 watts at 2 ohms. The subs are reading at about 2.9 ohms on my multimeter. I've checked and double checked all the wiring, and nothing I can find wrong there. The amp gets so hot that it just shuts off after about 30 minutes of playing.

Any suggestions?

2.9 ohms each? or together? are you bridging that amp? what meter do you have.

They are reading 2.9 each and the meter is just a no name brand with a positive and negative leads or prongs(not sure what they're called)

Your gonna blue the amp. Run it in stereo Mode

The subs are not bridged. I am using both channels on the amp. Positive on sub to positive on amp and am doing the same for the other sub.

The input sensitivity is at about 2/3

Maybe your just pushing the amp to hard.
