And not all of them were treated as horribly as textbooks portray. Do you honestly think that slavery would have gone on for as long as it did without a full scale rebellion of black slaves if they WERE treated as schoolbooks portray? 1) How can an object be racist? Racism is an emotion or paradigm, a flag possesses neither. Furthermore, it is not a symbol of racism by those who wave it. I have never heard anyone who displays a confederate flag say "I wave it because I am racist, and this flag is the symbol for racism". They say they are interested in state's rights, an agrarian society, rebellion against industrialism, etc.
2) Because society views a certain action as wrong, does it make it so? Under that line of though, slavery was "right" in the 1700s because a majority of people thought it was so. Or the Holocaust was "right" because a majority of Germans in power felt it was so. What is the critical mass required to make something right or wrong?

So because a majority of people incorrectly associate the confederate flag with racism, and nothing but racism, that makes those who brandish the confederate flag racist. So, I should be careful what I do because of the ignorance of others possibly misunderstanding my intent. That is the same line of reasoning that I see punk gang people beat up innocent people because they have a red polo shirt on in the mall.

3) What does 'step you game up' actually mean? If it means become an educated person, perhaps you should step your game up as your comment only seems to propogate and justify the ignorance of society.

Um, no. Aside from looking ridiculous, they could possibly be a hazard to safety. All those "gangstas" in the overly large shirts that my fat *** could cut in half and still have room to spare, could hide weapons or other contraband. Many school systems wear uniforms for a reason, though sometimes they're a bit over the top.

Well being from the south myself thats a very simple answer for me. It is a part of our history and is a since of pride. The flag has nothing to do with slavery, it was the flag that we were under when we were our own country. Plus I dont really see truckers fly under a confederate flag. Movies like to portray southern people as if we are ignorant and have no teeth and married to our sisters and cousins. I have lived in Mississippi my whole life and I dont know any people like that. We have beaches and over a dozen casinos on our coastline and it is a very popular place for tourist to come. So back to the Rebel Flag.. Its just a part of our history that we want to keep.

At first I thought that the war in Iraq would have had some sort of positive outcome... but in all reality, Iraq is just a sandy piece of shit *** place with no real value other then oil. To the black people on the forum whom it may concern: Why is it that when a black person wears something with the confederate flag on it, you consider them to not be "proud of their heritage" or consider it "sad"? Would you rather them wear the african flag? Blacks as a society want to be treated as equals to anyone else, yet they are the only people we refer to on a regular basis as "african americans", yet white people who may have roots in Russia, or Sweden, or France arent called "russian americans" or "french americans". I thought we all just wanted to be "Americans"? Why arent hispanics referred to as "nicaraguan americans" or "honduran americans"?
