why does the south and truckers still fly the confederate flag?

it's a southern pride thing.

there was more to the south than keeping blacks as slaves.

blacks from the south fought for the south in the cival war.

the south didn't want to be a part of the united states, and didn't want the goverment to make all the rules, and we still don't.

go doun by GA and AK and you'll see black fold wearing rebel flag T-shirts.

alot of people don't realize that the civil war had alot more to do with seceding from the union than slavery. southern people may know that more often than people who never lived there. i never lived there by the way.

yeh cuz it was either that or be hanged

As a southerner I see it as a symbol of pride, individualism, and a rebelious and free spirit. It represents where we are from and the pioneer spirit that we possess.. It has nothing to do with slavery( be it that it is most closely associated wit slavery but no slave ship ever flew a confederate flag) .. mainly it represents our part of the nation, agreesive and individual mantality and its also a pretty nifty looking lil design..

Let's not forget that the reason many say that it was a state's rights issue is that the Southern states wanted the "right" to keep slavery legal - which is what they would have done if secession was successful. So yes, it was about state's rights - but it is disingenuous to say that slavery wasn't a main component in the argument.
