Why does my jimmy **** so much?

do you drive with the defrost on?

many cars these days automatically use the AC when anything defrost is used. the AC light on the dash wont be on, but it will be using the AC compressor to reduce moisure in the air which uses gas

ever think to actually record the mileage between tanks then divide by your tanks capacity to get an estimate on mileage?
You say you drive 6 hours then the tank is empty. If you average 80mph and have a 15 gallon tank that is 32mpg which isnt bad

Maybe it isnt the car that sucks, maybe it is you?
Who the hell averages 80 mph just driving around?

some quick math, assuming 2-3hrs of freeway driving, and a 18 gallon tank since thats what my explorer sport has.

3hrs driving x 65mph = 195 miles

+

3 more hrs driving x 65 = 195 miles

195+195 = 390 miles per tank.

390 miles / 18 gallon tank = 21.6 mpg.

quit your *****ing. i get 18 on the freeway, and about 13-14 on the streets. and that 18 on the freeway is for about 25 miles street driving, and the rest on the freeway, so its not an average but a pretty close estimate of what i get for MPG on the highway.

you want good gas mileage, buy a honda insight. my teacher averaged 60mpg...

thats what I've been doing recently, at the beginning of winter I used to drive with it on all the time so my windows dont fog up but now im continually turning it on and off.

THANK GOD someone said it. i dont know why people dont do this. its not perfect, but it gives you a **** good idea. i also find, people who only fill up their tanks with $15 at a time complain about bad gas mileage alot.

for example: my girlfriend has a 4cyl mitsu mirage. she complained about gas mileage, and she would always fill up with $15-20 at a time. she said "i get horrible gas mileage)...so we filled it up. full tank. we then waited until it was empty. highway/street average was 32mpg...i should of slapped the *****.

4.3 weren't built for gas mileage..... but that does seem a little extreme..... it is cold outside and that has a pretty negative affect on your gas mileage, also make sure there is the correct air pressure in your tires, spark plugs are gapped correctly, and any UNNESSESARY weight is removed from your vehicle.....

my 4.6 crown vic gets about 20+ and weighs 4800lbs.....

I think a more helpfull estimate of improper fuel usage is MPG instead of time.... engines that idle for long periods of time get ZERO MPG!!
