Why do you guys talk about the Type R so much but not the Type X?

Because the Type R has a niche of being a cheap woofer that can get very loud at a low note when ported so its ideal for a great daily street banger.

The Type X has a lot of competition in its class with many woofers that can do more with less power. Still a nice sub though.

isnt the type-x more sq orientated and the type r is more spl. I know the type x isnt very efficient either as it needs atleast 800watts to really get going. They are only $220 on ebay brand new.

Well, SQL gets thrown around a lot.

In reality, the type-r and type-x both are SQL speakers.

The type-x is more toward the SQ end of the spectrum, i guess you could say.

I'm still curious to see how well a type-x CAN perform given the right power/tuning, but most installers focus their demo cars on the type-r's more, because they're a more accessible speaker for customers. Read: Cheaper

i have type x's and they just dont satisfy me that much although i think in the right box they will get better also really good excursion on some notes.

the type x is a high excursion, expensive, sealed enclosure subwoofer.

the type r is a low excursion, quality bl, cheap, ported enclosure subwoofer.

the type r lends to higher spl scores, hence the e-Boner.

So. If I wanted cheap($100-250) SQL Based sub that still pounded decently. Type-X with how much power? Or should I look elsewhere. As in a Diamond audio D6's?

Is there a reason for this? Isn't the Type X supposed to be the better(higher up) model?

yea but y pay more for an X and the R's perfrom well at a great price, ive heard a X and there gret but for a cheaper price u can have something so much similar to it

umm, the type X has less than a millimeter more xmax than the type R.

And I dont think the R gets the e-boner for metering well, it is simply one of the best SQL woofers for its price.

I dunno ive seen my type x's excursion and it doesnt compare to a type R..excursion wise.
ooookay? Specs dont lie, the Type R has 18mm xmax and the type X has 19mm, I dunno about about xmech, but you shouldnt be pushing it that far anyways //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, in conclusion, they are basically the same excursion wise, either your eyes deceive you or you are seeing them in different installs (aka watching a type R in a ported box playing near tuning)

The x's are kinda neat in that they play louder the lower the note goes.

I can tell mine want a sealed box, tho. Transient response nosedives withing 5 hz of tuning frequency in my box, which is kind of a bummer for a SQL setup.

I honestly think my 15" L7 is less effected by the drop in transient response at, or even below tuning frequency.

They def. aren't made for ported boxes, but as long as the majority of the song is 35hz or above, it's really tight, and pretty **** loud from 50hz down.
