Why do tube tv's make the high pitch noise??

I've noticed it on ALOT of tube tvs and lately, my 3 year old tv is making a VERY high pitch noise at times....it goes away on it's own but it's soooo annoying...Any ideas?

i have a funny story...

I was at one of my RadioShack dsitrict meetings, where the DM explains to us all the new roduct lin...whatever. We were talking about the new LCD lineup, and he said "they are a lot better than those catheter-ray tube tv's."

my tube tv doesn't make noise

except it moans a lot on the xxx channel

mine does it, but its almost as old as i am. i think its a 1985 model. i just hit the side when it starts, and it goes away for a while.
