Why Do Sub Bottom Out

90% of time, playing under tuning frequency of box, with enough power being sent to the sub.

Caused by basically the box having no more damping on the woofer below the port frequency.

almost having no dampening, means almost no physical control of woofer travel.

no control of cone means bottoming out, which means its reaching past its mechanical limits.

Not enough restriction on cone motion for the given input power to the speaker. This may be caused by too large of a box, too much input power from the amp, the sub/enclosure combo unloading from the signal deviating too far below tuning in the case of vented setups, or (most often) a combination of those 3 things.
