Why do ppl hate on JL?

a Type R sounding as good as a w6v2? I bet you are in rare company with that opinion. Everybody is entitled to their opinion(and some of us couldn't care less about spl). I never said the W6v2 was the best (ofcourse there are some...Eric Holdaway, for example, who think it is the best sounding sub he has ever reviewed).
Ofcourse, you didn't even understand the point of my post. The person I quoted had not mentioned the W6V2s, and they are widely considered to be excellent(that would be the opposite of "mostly garbage") and many prefer them to the W7s. I think the w6v2s may be the most under appreciated JL subs around. Most people just automatically think W7 when talking about higher end JL subs. The W6v2s are excellent.
type R in the right box sounds great. So does the w6.

you quoted me btw.

on the same token, some of us could care less about SQ - probably the majority.

Widely considered means nothing to me, i've fiddled with both woofers and the type R is just as good SQ while getting louder. If you'd like to perform a legitimate test... thats fine. Just don't think the w6 is better because it costs more and you paid for it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Um, no. If your Type-R sounds just as good as the W6v2 you heard, then the w6v2 was not setup properly.
The W6v2 is honestly one of the best sounding subs on the market.

the R is one of the best all around woofs out there.

You have no idea what I paid for my 12W6V2. I don't gauge how something sounds by what it costs. I go with what my ears tell me...period.

Also, those interested in that sub(along with w7s, etc) are probably not THAT interested in pure spl either. If I was into spl(which I am not at all), I would not use a 12W6v2. Given that I am interested in just having a great sounding, balanced system, the W6v2 is a nice choice. Having a loud system holds zero value for me...maybe because I am a little older.

I never said the Type R was a bad woofer by any means, just that I believe the w6v2 sounds better.

i own a pair of the type-r's and do not regret purchasing them at all....sound really good...especially in SQ(which they were made for)...and boy they get loud while retaining that awesome SQ...

I never said that the Type R can't sound good. But, to say that it's truly on par with the W6v2....nope, sorry. And if you don't believe me, as Eric Holdaway.

That is all...

hey so is a type r compared to a w6? cuz i was thinking of getting a type r...and the guy at the local shop said mite as well go for a jlw3...which costs about 20 dollars more...

should i go for an alpine type r? and what amp should i run it with? i was thinking the jle1400d...

i heard some shitty w6 v2 i heard some shitty type r's i have heard some shitty xxx's does it mean they are good or bad? nope just means the people who have them dont know how to seal up around a speaker or dont know what an x over does or heaven forbids building a propper box lol. there are about 50 woofers id throw into the mix if done right could sound pretty good and thats under the 300 dollar retail mark. there is something to be said about a woofer being able to produce a dry bass. if its dry it isnt muddy and it sounds real.

I will go ahead and say that the alpine type r doesnt even remotely compare, when both are setup correctly. The w6v2 has much better impact, smoother repsonse, and hits way lower then the alpine type r. I work at a custom audio shop that sells both of them, so I can say that ive heard them both in pretty much every setup. If i were comparing something to the type r 12 then it would be the infinity kappa/ kappa perfects, although I still think the infinitys are clearer, and hit lower octaves. The type r's are decent.
