Why do people spend thousands of dollars on systems when they only hit 155 when it only could cost little less then $1000 to hit about 150? I just don't understand it. Then again I am kinda new at it. Do they spend more money so people can here you even farther down the road or am I just messing something?

That's like saying, why do people spend thousands of dollars so they're car can go 5mph faster? Generally speaking when you get up into the 150db range, it's people who are competing, and when your competing, it's all about winning...

If you're doing 150 with $1000 worth of equipment then you're doing good. I'm talking about 150 legal on the Termlab. I think I could count on one hand the number of people that can actually do that....and volume is not linear, so it becomes more and more difficult to gain a small amount as you get over 150. The difference between 150 and 155 is way more significant than say 135 and 140.

That being said, people also love to spend money...and the majority of people spend it on more expensive equipment because they think it'll make them louder. Most people could gain a good bit by optimizing what they have, but they may not know how or just love to support the economy...lol

Decibels go up exponentially so 150 to 155 is a significant difference.
only guy so far to spell decibel correctly. but to answer simply, many people are very enthusiastic about what kind of number their system can produce. its a challenge to yourself, especially if youre a competitor which gives you motivation to beat the competition. even if not competing, many people simply love the wow factor they can accomplish by putting up such a large number in their daily driver. there are many examples of people who have spent thousands and hundreds of man hours to not rise by 5 dB but rather simply to rise by tenths of a dB.

id have to say it depends on the vehicle, as it is very easy for some people to get that 150-155. LIKE ME GD IT. im sitting at 147 and hopefully will get 155 or close once i put my aq3500's on the BTL's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. People always want to be louder. Some people prefer certain brands because they say there more reliable. I go with what i can afford.
