Why do people insist on over-pricing their equipment in the classifieds?

I mean seriously when people post in the classified section of this forum I rarely ever find someone list at a good price. Its always someone listing an item for $350 when you can clearly get it for like $100 less on ebay if not MORE(NEW )(and probably less on other car audio retailer sites as well) I mean whats the point? I mean unless their is some sort of warranty on it(which im guessing most cant be transfered?) And then they complain about post dumping...its hilarious.

Also Almost every price gets talked down...

It makes sense.

Sites like ebay are based on the premise that you have bidding wars to attain the highest possible sale price.

Sites like this (member-to-member sales) work the opposite way...start high, then negotiate. There is no point in posting something for sale at a price that it will clearly get snatched up at...the goal is always to get maximum value.

With that said though, there are some that are way out of reach, and I'll agree it can become unreasonable sometimes.

Just my .02

They normally post a price just because it's a requirement so they just throw something up and say obo. If you don't like the prices then either don't buy it or PM them with your best offer. What's hard about that?

WOW, this is probably the dumbest post I have seen in a while.

It is fairly simple, I am not surprised you didn't pick up on it though. I will break it down into 3 simple phrases for you to understand.

1. They own the item, they can sell if for whatever they want to sell it for.

2. If you dont like the price, dont buy it. If you can find it cheaper elsewhere, buy it elsewhere.

3. If you must tell them their price is too high keep it to a pm, don't post it in their thread like an *******.

Completely agree with this. Price starts high, people are always negotiating or lowballing.

Exactly! Why lowball yourself right off the bat?

Start at a fairly high, but reasonable price and drop the price over time until you reach what you consider your lowest selling price. If it still doesnt sell keep it, donate it or give it to a freind or family member.

bc they know that some ppl are stupid enough to overpay for their shit

EXACTLY.......I see people on here all the time paying like $20-30 less than what a brand new sub or whatever costs and thinking they got a deal because it's "only" a few weeks/months old. It's NOT new, usually has no warranty, and you are taking a risk with the sellar vs buying from a dealer. To me the peace of mind is worth the little extra $$$.

I don't even bother to look in the classifieds anymore. If there's something I want I just buy it direct or from an online dealer...

+1

dont buy the stuff then. I've seen most stuff on here go for much less than ebay, and you know, for the most part, who you ARE getting it from. Prices are usually what they are, so they can be offered lower, and get whet they actually want for it.

I think post dumping is grounds for banning, no matter what the price for something is. The people on here are bright enough to know not to buy something overpriced w/o being told.

Well dog, I agree with you 100%. It is irritating as hell to see someone comment within the thread that they can find the product cheaper elsewhere. And then when that poster is called on it they whine and say that they are just negotiating. Bullshit. You negotiate when you say it in a pm. You sabotage when you say it in the thread.

Give yourself three scooby snacks for three good points.
