Gain set at half doesn't mean its at half power, I know some people set by ear but I set my gain using a dmm and a tone.

are you running the amp at 4ohm or 1 ohm? if it is at 1ohm duh burn up the amp, it isn't rated for 1 ohm ( nomex on! lol ) and at 4 you are clipping the hell out of it by cranking the volume cuz u r only getting 175 rms to each sub.

cvr's dont like power. 500w is plenty, sometimes tooo much. if your setup properly (right ohm load to the amp). that amp is capable of 900w usually. i would say buy better subs

Bass is flat on the head unit. Yes they are new

clipping the amp probably. the subs are probably seeing ~200w each, but with a clipped signal its causing them to heat up.

what voice coil configuration are the subs? Dual 2's or Dual 4's?
