Why do my subs keep smelling after playing for a good 20 mins?

your amp can push close to 900 watts rms at 2 ohms !!

at 4 ohms it puts out maybe 400, so that is only 200 per sub. you need dvc2 ohm subs to get a 2 ohm load at the amp to get the right power to them. at 200 watts per sub you are probably clipping it to hell by cranking everything up to get more bass. and yes clipping can trash your amp and prolly has already trashed the subs.

How does my amp not have enough power? Is it my subs that can't take the watts since they are dual 4 compared to dual 2?
it has enough power at 2 ohms, but your running it at 4 ohms and your pushing the amp too hard causing clipping. which means the subs are getting damaged from a clipped signal, your smelling them heat up. they should not be doing that off 200w each. the amp is prone to failure a lot earlier now that your causing everything to run very inefficiently.

do you have "LOUD" turned on on your head unit? or any sort of bass adjustments turned up past "0"?

what is the "bass boost" turned to on the amp?
