Why did this douche pm me?

I'm not looking to setup a proxy because I have no reason to.
But, I am wondering if just any joe smo scammer can set one up or if it takes a greater understanding of things.
Yes pretty much anyone can do it and it is a common way for scammers to access and order products using stolen credit cards etc. Same goes for those setting up 'phishing sites' that send you fake paypal emails. Setup a hosting account, make a nice fake Paypal email with a link to your site and make your site look like paypal and try and collect logins before your host finds out and shuts them down.

Well that is extra ghey. Do you think many of the scammers on here use those tactics? Or do they just use a simple 'log in' proxy?

People piss me off. Why can't they just go get a job and work.

I think most of the scammers here are too dumb to use a proxy. Most of the things I see (I work for a hosting company) are people from China, Malaysa , India, South America etc that do most of it.

For example we get a lot of order for accounts to setup phishing sites like Paypal, BoA etc and 99% of the time they route back to one of those countries. Most of them use stolen CC's which is how we catch them as the best security for online companies is doing things like checking to make sure the address and phone number on the card match the one given, checking the location of the order compared to what address the card is issued for, checking country, check if they are using a free email address, check for 'known' proxy server status etc.

Thankfully a lot of this is done automatically through a script and anti-fraud solutions such as Maxmind are setup so based on the 'score' of how many things did not match with the order you can either refuse to accept it or put it on hold until you do something like call to voice verify the order.

Unfortunately we are in kind of a transitional period now where the law does not have too much control over what goes on over the internet though I would imagine in 10 years things will be much different and it will be much easier to say get someone who scammed you on CA by contacting the local police as now a days they don't seem to offer much help.

I've never been scammed, thank god & knock on wood. But, I see these threads all the time.

Is really annoying and a real threat for any online purchase. I wonder if there would be anyway to setup a middle man service.

You send the product you are selling to HoldersX, buyer sends money there. HoldersX verify what it is then send the money and the product. Charge like a 10% fee or something.

maybe so, but at 11.50/hr he cant find anyone else to do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Meh. Nice work.

i am the sole commercial estimator for my company. i am irreplaceable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif (esp at my pay rate)
No one is irreplaceable. That is a very complacent attitude to have.

I am able to accomplish something the person who in my previous position couldn

t....but now that I have layed the foundation, I am easily replaced. I think they could replace me with a chicken or stuffed animal.

The additonal shipping cost, fee, and agency risk of HoldersX make such a mechanism practically worthless. Unless it was something I couldn't find elsewhere.
