Why aren't more people hitting 160?

tell you what buy me the equipment to get a repected 160db and i'll run it, but seeing how thats what most spl vans average and only 179 on the american bass spl ride got 179db but they had about as much equipment in there to buy a house... take your camera to meter with you...

An SPL van that's almost 20dbs more is just about 10 times louder than what I had. Once you start getting that far up there the amount of equipment needed is insane.

Never once said I did this build myself. **** near impossible in Alaska without a garage which is why I paid to have it done. I also plan to have this new build done by someone else. EVERYTHING in Alaska is more expensive so 15k in the states is realistically like 8-10k. I have no complex. I've heard a few systems louder than mine...and no I don't know what some of you do for a living but does that matter as much? Money is money. I was doing big things at a time in my life which helped me buy stuff. 6 years later I'm doing big things again hence the new build.

Just pointing out for reference as to the knowledge of the board compared to the knowledge of yourself and your installer..

KHA on here is an Acoustics Engineer.. for a living he measures soundwaves, lengths, tuning (how to make it louder, quieter etc..).. with a degree in sound and extensive experience, Id say he has the two of you beat..

Just saying, its probably best to be humble and try to learn a thing or two on here before throwing your money at somebody..

I'm well aware. You said yourself you didn't do this work. I mean hell, if I had 8-10K here I could have someone think through everything for me and go earn someone else's trophy. That's my point. Saying there's no garage space in Alaska doesn't hold water with me. I've been to Ketchikan and even they had resources for DIYers.
And yes, what we do for a living does matter. You've got company owners, designers, engineers, competitors, and enthusiasts, as well as a myriad of other skills on this site. Yet none of us admit to knowing it all. Collectively, we happen to know enough to discredit your claims, though. And that's really what matters.

Never said I had someone think through anything for me! I bought the right equipment. I drew the sketches for the box, I did the mathematics involved, i figured the ohms/amps needed. The only thing I didn't do was the actual labor. I meant what you do for a living for MONEY doesn't matter. Yes, the skills needed cannot have a price put on them because you learn so much from others. So if I didn't hit 163 then I didn't! But i wont tell myself i didnt see something when i know i didnt. But for ANYONE to claim someone didn't do something when they have no knowledge of what that person is capable of is dumb. Yes there are ways and means for me to build the system. I built my first system in -20 weather! Did I ever wanna do that again? Def not. Never said there is no garage space. I said building something that would take that long in 8-9 months of Alaska weather WITHOUT A GARAGE is almost impossible. It can be done cuz I've done it but I will never do that again.

If all you got for even 8K is a 4000W amp 4 mid level big box store 12's and a slightly upgraded electrical system and wires sticking out all over the place you got totally robbed. Amp mounted to the box?

If you're really rolling in dough, you should fly yourself to a big SPL show and see what is really loud. 163dB is the sound pressure INSIDE a jet engine turbine. I assure you this did NOT happen for you. At 160+ db EVERYTHING breaks. Glass, gaskets, welds, brake lines, woofer cones, etc. At 164 your keys in the ignition would stand upright, a can of soda in the car would explode, a piece of paper on the dashboard would turn to confetti. The only way the car in that picture made 163dB is if you filled it with explosives and blew it up.

Odds are very high that that build didn't even do 150. There are very very few vehicles that are even louder than 155, fewer still than can actually do more than play 60hz+ tone for 3 seconds at that level. AND the sort of shop or person that makes 150dB+ builds owns a real SPL meter.

If you "saw a 163" it was a cellphone app SPL measurement or some other complete bullshit.

In short, your story is utter bullshit.

Had the perfect Panasonic flipout head unit cant remember what model. Can't remember what box was tuned to and inside was completely covered in dynamat inside. Mic was up front on passenger dashboard. I mean If I didn't hit it I wouldn't say it. The amp alone pushed 4895 RMS. The subs were T2D2's Not the D4's like most people had. The difference meaning they could be wired down to 2 ohms instead of 4 And were 1200 watts RMS. I'm not a fan of caps anymore but the cap did help a lot. I'm sure most people have never even seen a 100 farad cap or know the capacity of it. Look up the rockford fosgate model. Very rare. Like one reader said it could have been the mics. It was 4 years ago and that could be a variable. Ex and I got in a fight that night and she destroyed my camera phone with the video. The guy that beat me hit 165 in a walled van with 9 subs can't remember what. I'm currently looking at a new build in a tahoe. I no lie lol.

You can wire 4 d2 subs to 1 ohm or 4 ohm.
