Whose subs would you choose for the best performance per dollar?

Those are some pretty outragous claims. You got any proof of any of this? And I'm not your friend, I don't even know you, so drop the wiseass "my friend" crap.
They're all pretty well documented "claims" amongst various people in the know. As a consumer, it's your job to learn these things yourself from research....did you buy eD unaware of any of these issues?

I'm still not aware of them. No company could be guilty of what audioholic claims and still be in business. The only product of theirs I've purchased is a sub, but I know quite a few people who have a lot of their stuff. They all love their products and have had no problems with customer service.

No shorting rings.. XBL2 gives you less inductance because there is less area of the motor in the gap. Both the t-yoke and the top plate have been notched like a C for a split gap. Less area in the gap is like adding a shorting ring because it has less area in the gap for magnetic flux to saturate. Also you can lower the layers on a voice coil to give you lower inductance. (example a 2 layer voice coil has lower inductance than a 4 layer voice coil.)

I know that the xbl2 gives less inductance but, I could of sworn that the last adire site stated that they "also" incorporated shorting rings to further lower inductance, oh well.

Yes, I often wonder how they stay in business....and then I remember that there are people like you who buy their products without being aware of their pedigree...take too many things at face value.

Its not my fault you are ignorant on the subject, nor is it my job to inform you.
You are now aware of them, you simply refuse to believe even so far as to hit the little search button at the top of your screen. That's all it would take, the only real question left is... will you hit that button, or wont you.

I intentionally left out several eD controversies, simply because I do not know them to be true. The above was merely a list of the well documented cases. Uhm... lawl?

I have nothing vesting in ED, so it's no skin off my back what they've done in the past, or even if they go under. What I do know is the sub I have has performed flawlessly for more than 5 years now, and many people I know who have ED products really like thier products and have had no problems with the company. My personal experience with ED and their products has been a positive one. It's based on that experience that I recommend their products.

I used to have eD way back in the day. Good stuff when it worked... I had the e15a and it broke. The reconed it after a DNA test. Broke again. They reinforced the cones in a newer version, so I sent it back an I guess I got a new one. Still sounded like crap.

I was told to check my amp and box. Funny, it was their amp, and the box was made by Phil, and he makes great stuff. No problems there. Finally said screw it with eD, they got to much of my money for what I received in return. User error? Before dealing with online companies I was a victim of MTX, Pioneer, Audiobahns and I never had issues, granted they didn't sound as good as eD stuff.

Anyways I had called it quits for a while, and ended up getting RE SE 12's which were nice. Sold that stuff and I'm now back into audio again, but with much different tastes. No more outrageous setups trying to destroy my eardrums.

Dan has stated they can and have used shorting rings, including incorporating them into the "rebate" cut into the top plate. What all drivers he did this on I'm not sure. Considering shorting rings typically have to be quite sizeable to have any real effect at lower frequencies I'm not sure if the rebates can hold enough material to have any real effect for subwoofers.
