Who's the Best Rapper Alive????

Excellent, enough material. Did you know that Paid In Full is the number 1 rated hip hop album of all time. Ask any rapper who is in the top 5 who influence them, they will say Rakim. He is the best period, hell he even influence pac and big.
I would agree with you, but I really think Illmatic is.

I think many of the newer "novelty" artists are really ruining it for the actual people with talent. I know and have recorded with many people who are SO much better than most of the crap you hear on the radio.

My thoughts exactly.
I think its the catchyness (yea i made up a word) of southern rap and the beats that get us through the crappy songs.

To me most northern beatmakers arent really that good. I mean yea, swizzy and just blaze hold their own. But, **** who else is there.

They need to get some bass up there.
Dude, I can live in this thread. Swizzy and Just Blaze and that's it?.........lol. Ever heard of:

DJ Premier

Kanye West

I would say Rick Rubin, but I believe he's in Cali now

Rza

Prince Paul

Jazzy Jeff

Wyclef Jean

D-Nice

Eric B

Eric Sermon

I can keep going

Rap is ore than just a beat. And it is also just more than lyrics. Very few artists can put the two together. I like Papoose, but his beats are shitty. Carter 3 has some of the best beats I heard in a while, but the wrong artist got them.

Bottom line is, rap is disposable now. That shit they put out now will not stand the test of time.

Great adventures of Slick Rick is 21 years old and still gets air play with me.

IMO rap is nothing without its lyrics, but it still can be good even with very simple or boring beats. Music, good music behind it, makes a big difference, but in general an artists beats aren't a major swaying factor if I'm trying to decide whether I think he is great or just a typical mediocre rapper

beats can be bought, there are an infinite number of producers and an infinite number of good beats that will be released, the real lyrical talent is much more scarce

Ummm, I'll say that I was talking about beatmakers.

But:

Kanye West-isnt northern, he's midwestern

Rick Rubin- I'll give you that one

Jazzy Jeff- This nga still makes beats?

Wyclef-Eh, yea I guess if youre into that psuedo-reggae shit

D-Nice- Who the fuck is he?

Rza-Eh, i got tired of shaolin a looooong time ago. But i still fuck with M.E.T.H.O.D. Man

Prince Paul-Who the fuck?

Eric B-He was a beast, he doesnt still make beats does he?

Eric Sermon- I used to fuck with him and Keith Murry. But where in the hell have they been?

cant believe no one mentioned paul wall. not that he is a good lyricist , he does have good punchlines. and his beats arnt half bad .

id also have to say older 50 cent (get rich and earlier) and older lloyd banks is pretty good imo.

I do like Paul Wall's the People's Champ CD.

I dont really like his newer shit.

Drive Slow is one of my fav songs though.

I agree on it being nothing without the lyrics, but I look at Eric B & Rakim. When Eric B stopped doing beats, the lyrics were still there, but something was missing to me. That's where I was going with that.
