Whole new small system advice

Greetings,

I just attempted to register and low and behold It says I was already registered! I don't remember that at all but its definatly a name I chose.

Anyways, Ive been cruising around in my moms 99 ford ranger and now it is officially mine so I would like to put in a good sounding system for a good price of course. One thing I do know is sound is opinion so Im gonna search around for some well reviewed speakers and reciever. However I do have a couple inquiries;

1999 Ford Ranger Pickup Super Cab

with 4 doors

* Factory Stereo Installed [change]

Factory replacement info:

In-dash stereo

7-1/2" depth; Size code E,F2,S,U

Front speakers

Front Door : 6x8"

Rear speakers

Rear Door : 6x8

The above is info from crutchfiled and Im not exactly sure what I can do with the 6X8. Can I fit a 6X9 in the rear and a 6.5 component in the front? That is what I would want but will it fit and or would it be better to put 6.5 in the rear to? Or do the have to be 6X8 which Ive never even heard of?

Another thing I was curious about is if a 50 watt X 4 reciever will run these 4 speakers well.

Thanks and any suggestions/advice is welcome. Im halfway asleep right now and may have forgot something so maybe ill have another question later

by the way I listen to all types of rock and im more interested in sound clarity than booming bass and I dont really want to spend money on a amp.

yes you can buy or make speaker adapter rings to fit a 6.5 in a 6x8 hole, change out the fronts and leave the backs alone, most people dont care for rear fill as they call it.

you will most defintely want to consider getting an amp to power the front speakers and leave the back speakers powered off the head unit.

also the option I took was I bought a JBL 6x8 componet set (6x8 and 1" tweet with x overs)

jsut need to add the tweets into my a pillars and put the 6x8 in the stock locations in the door.

For a system run entirely off the head unit, you can buy or build inexpensive adapter plates that will allow you to install different sized speakers in the factory slots.

Keep in mind that even high power head units are putting out ~20 watts/channel at most. That's not to say that a speaker will not play at decent volume levels with that power. But if you want to get the most clarity and volume out of a system, the added power of an external amp makes a big difference.

If you like to play your music loud, consider going for an amp and even a small sub if you can swing the cost. A modest four channel amp with the front channels on aftermarket front speakers and the rear channels bridged to the sub makes for a good basic system. I'd leave the stock rear speakers in place running off the head unit amp.

There are lots of good deals out there if your patient and willing to do some searching. Don't dismiss using a sub, even if you're not a basshead. You'd be surprised at how much a small sub can fill out the sound of bass guitar and percussion. There are many out there that will work in a small space and don't need that much power to shine.

Thanks alot for the input. My goal here was to save money by getting speakers that could run great of the head unit but you guys sold me on the amp + whatever sub I can find for a good price.

One other question I have is about putting 6.5 in the 6X8 hole. On crutchfield it tells me ill have to modify to put them in and that there for kick panels. However I don't get the modify message with 5.25 speakers. Does this mean that there is no way that kicker speaker will fit in my front door 6X8 spot even with adapter rings?

they will you can use 1/4, 3/8" mdf to make an adapter ring to fit in the 6.5" and the 1" tweeter. I reccomend running a good set of components up front. You are going to want more power than just off the deck however. There is a lot of speakers out their that sound bad with little power and sound outstanding with the right amount of power.

And dont plan on purchasing from crutchfield. There is a lot more reputable sites to purchase from.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a headunit? Ive been looking but there are so many with a huge price range.

Basically I just want the best sound quality I can get for under $250

The only thing I require is cd playback but any other features are nice

Do any units stick out from the bunch in terms of sound quality in the is price range?

In that price range there are alot of head units you will be happy with, if you dont mind used there are some nice Alpines in the classifieds and Pioneer makes great head units new for under 250.

Good choice on amplifing the front speakers, they will sound much clearer and louder.

Greetings,

I wonder why you don't remember, lol.

Anyway, you have a problem on your hands. Speakers that sound good off headunit power won't take to an amp all that well and of course more importantly the other way around holds true. Actually I don't think headunit power is power and shudder thinking about it, but whatever. If you want any meaningful help you really have to give us your whole budget at once, not this for a headunit and this for speakers and so on. What do you plan to spend total and how much of the install are you going to do?

AMP:profile AP1040 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4870

Components:CDT EF-61FG http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=3341

(Still not sure on components, I was sure then I started reading peoples opinions and some say best speakers they ever heard but some say worst.....I dont really want to buy these if I can get something else for under $200 that sounds much better)

Not sure yet on a bass tube or 1 sub

Any opinions/ suggestions?
