From the research ive read, it would take more than 4 layers of asphalt mat like fatmat to equal one layer of a good butyl mat like damp or damp pro. Knowing this, the cheaper stuff doesn't seem like such a good value, does it?thats the whole thing though.. it really depends on how many layers of the higher stuff it would take to get the dampening you want then you would have to do like 2 times that with the cheaper.. Like i said.. I wouldn't use it but if you are looking for a cheap flooring go for it.. If you can deal with the curing smell be my guest.. that reason alone is enough for me to say no thank you.. I use dynamat extreme but that can get expensive.. Luckily my new setup will fire forward so all the trunk lid mat is getting moved forward.. ya thats right.. I recycle!! cut my hands up pulling it off it didn't want to come off..
Butyl is far superior to asphalt. Someone else already posted it, but I guess you didnt read it... check this out: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.comSo butyl>asphat?
