I have no idea how it happened.

I pulled it out of a friends car.

 

He bought the car second hand, so the system was already in it. I looked at everthing and the install was pretty crappy. No dblock to the 2 amps, no fusing for the amps, etc....

 

He said that when he turned up the volume really high on his radio at a party with some friends, the amps cut out. Then he was playing it again, opened the headunit to put a new cd in, and now the radio doesnt work, or the amp.

What would have caused it to fry?

Ehh, no fusing could have allowed too much current to flow through it. Most likely, if the amp was set up that poorly and your friend did nothing, he in not educated in the field of clipping and bass boost. So he probably had the boost up, was clipping it to hell, and it in turn sucked wayy too much current through and fried the mosfets.

looks like blown mosfets to me, get urself a sodderign iron, a phillips head, and a bottle of magic smoke to put back INTO the amp...hehe
