I was just wanting to get opinions / experiences from people who have used American Bass XFL 1544's. Can these subs handle a little more than their rated power of 1000wrms? I have a Hifonics BRZ2400.1D - 2400wrms into 1 ohm, and two of these subs (all dual 4's so I can wire them down to 1 ohm). I was wondering if it would be too risky running this Hifonics amp with it?

My box is ported and tuned to 35Hz...

You aren't gonna see 1200 a piece anyway after rise. You'll be fine.... Listen to Dtrom155 though. Get a dmm and set your gains right.
This brings me to another dilemma I have -

1. When setting the gains with a dmm, do the subs need to me connected to the amp together with the dmm so it presents a load? I always thought that connecting just the dmm alone would give a high false reading since there is no real load on the sub amp?

2. Should I set the gain for the full 2400wrms (with the ac volts on the dmm)?
