I had 2 15" elemental Designs K-series subs 4-ohm
I had then in a 6.0ft3 ported enclosure tuned to 38hz...THe subs did extremely well in the ported box..even at upper power and volume levels still maintained a stimulating mix of SPL and SQ..Actually the SPL was so great, it would blur your vision and it knocked one of my mirrors off of my stang...
I think the advantage of this sub, is not only the price..which for an SQL sub u cant beat the price for this sub..and personally there is no other sub in its price range that can exert the same power/SPL and or SQ levels that the EDk 15's can do..Also the advantage is they do extremely well in small ported and or sealed applications...The basket design and frame of the woofer..helps to give it a good cooling technique..which if u play continuous bass at a little over RMS..You can really see where these are advantages...Also the VC terminals are nice..they lock-down terminals as I call them..Unlike a lot of JL's and other cheaply built woofers that have the Push-on VC terminals..These are a lot easier to use, and dont require sizing anything up or exerting yourself in order to hood the sub up!!
The only disadvantage I noticed was that they dont make the 15" ed k's anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...To be quite honest with you, I really cant find any disadvantages with the EDk;s..I loved these subs..They never gave me the first problem..Not to mention they held up well in a competition enviroment as I call it..Running tones on them at upper power levels still maintained to work decent even though they are built more so for SQ..I rule them as a great SQL sub....The only disadvantage I would say is that the SQ isnt as good as I as assuming it would be..But then again its in a ported application..and it was rather nice for ported..so I wont say that one
Q quick oversight of the woofer is that they are a great SQL sub..the initial price of the woofer wont drain your bank account..and u great a good dose of SPL/SQ for the price..almost matches that of some $400 woofers..such as the JLw6v2, Eclipse TI's, Audiobahn woofers....The sub can be run in rather small ported and or sealed applications...I would say from personal experience a good box size would be from 1.2-2.4 for sealed applications and about 1.8-3.2 for ported applications...They wont loose any amount of SQ even at upper power and or volume levels..Distortion is also rather hard to obtain with these drivers...These woofers arent designed to be an NSPL or Db drag class winner..But they can sure hold u in the top 5 of certain lower classes...
I would recommend these subs for anyone who likes a w6v2 or any SQL sub....Not to mention if u want to compete in lower class's of NSPL or DB drag or even MECA..Also if u dont want to drain your account, and may not have a lot of space to put subs..I would most definately go with these subs..
I have hit 144 on lin x with these subs..that is with glitches and having to turn amp and HU down because of problems..So they are a very powerful sub!! Dont let an SPL hz chart fool u..with the box I had..It was saying my max was going to be 138.6dbs..geeeshh how wrong was it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif..
On another personal note...I have had a people starring at my car from 1/4 of a mile away..and also had people jump up and look while they were mowing their yards or running a weed eater..yes they are a killer SQL sub for the money!!
