Who has an Fi Q 12....

i have a 12 inch q ported at 2.2 at 30 hz, and i wish i hadn't gone so lowin the tuning. but most people will tell you to port the box instead of sealing it. Are you just worried about having to build your own box? or do you want to seal it for space reasons?

May I ask why?

When I was first planning on the set up, Scott told me a 12" Q would love about a 1.4 - 1.5 cuF sealed enclosure. He said it was his personal preference. I think 1.0 cuF might be too small, unless you don't care about the lows.

i don't have a Q, but i had a Mag in a ~1.2 cubic foot sealed box, and i liked it. i liked ported better, but if you don't have the room then there isn't much you can do. as long as you have the juice it should still get decently loud.

In all reality you really shouldn't be playing the sub above 75-80hz anyhow...but this is when a good set of mid-bass drivers should come in with a component system, to play 80hz and beyond.

I have one with 1000w rms with about 1.4 cubes sealed. I was very unhappy with it until I figured out I had a rca unplugged. Now it is one of the cleanest subs I have heard, goes low and has a nice punch to it. I justed changed my sig. line about changing to Polk's but I think I need to play with it a little more before I make the jump. It seems quite a few people have not liked them at first but I think once they start breaking in and people get the bugs worked out of their install (like me) they fall in love with them.

Thanks everybody for chiming in here.

I am limited on space so that is the reason for the small box... Also, I have always preferred sealed boxes to ported even when size wasn't an issue. I will be powering the sub with a Zapco 1100.1 so power shouldn't be a problem. I could maybe squeeze 1.2 cubes net under the seat if I got creative with the box.

This is why I had to ask this question: Real world results. Fi audio says that the sealed box should be .8 to 1.5 cubes and that really is quite a spread. I know that smaller boxes take more power and play louder, but I am more interested in sound quality and responsiveness than I am SPL.

Scott at Fi told me 1.0-1.2 is the best box for a 12" Q for sound quality. I bought a prefab box for now that is about 1.4 till I get the box built. Very happy with the Q so far.

I should have reworded my post and not said "upper" sub-bass frequencies. I was refering to the 45-60hz range. None the less, I'm still happy with how it sounds.
