Which way to fire subwoofers

Im going to have two dc xl 12s on a 4k and i was wondering should i seal the box off to the cabin or fire them to the rear?

firing inside car gives much less rattles but lots cars it just don't work., didn't work in my grand prix for some reason although box has 4" gaps on each side so truck wasn't sealed off.. and yes that box is way to small, way to small and to much $.. u be better off get a nice ported box for 1 of them than 2 in super tight box unless u only care about sq and want to make 2 nice subs hit 5db less than my pioneer lol..

Ive got an 06 altima with everything firing forward. Ive never had anything else installed in the car though so cant compare how it would sound facing any other direction.

I have my xl 12s sealed off firing in the cabin, box is roughly 3.35cf an it gets down great on my ampere 3800.1. I did try subs/port back an I liked it for what it was but decided to turn them inwards do to my liking.

Did some self motivated tests today. I have HCCA’s with black Coil upgrade being powered by a massive sundown amp. I tried firing forward port to side (wall style) directly behind the front seats of my 88 Ramcharger (SUV), results were negative. Wasn’t loud and didn’t really feel it. Moved everything to Rear, subs firing up, port firing 5 inches from back door. Blows the house down. Makes everything in my truck fall apart. My reverse lights no longer work lol.

Of course firing forward like that wont get you loud, hell its negative bass, you are in cancellation hell. Wall style means you seal off EVERYTHING letting zero air pressure and sound escape to the back area. If you dont do that then its just gonna be garbage. If you do seal it off, it'll be louder than how you have it currently by far but if thats not your thing then how you have it is fine. You always want the port firing farthest away from where the listener is with a normal ported box.
