Which way to face It?

It dont matter which way you put the sub, a box is a box built to specifications for the sub...
OK thats true its built to spec, but obviously positioning of a woofer matters in a vehicle. If it didnt than turning a box around to face the back of the vehicle as opposed to the front wouldnt cause any change in sound but it does. So on that same train of thought, the port should also be governed under those same laws correct? And if it is wouldnt it be best to have the woofer and the port on the same side of the box so they are subjected to the same conditions? Or am I way off base here.

Okay, I got a question for all the experienced ported box builders. Let's say two alpine type r's ported under the back seat (lifted 4.5") of a 99 dodge ram 1500. The subs are down firing, can the port be placed in the center seperate chamber facing the center console. In other words sub not on port side. How would this effect the performance

See in your case its the lesser of two evils. A port to close to another surface will cause the tunning frequency to change, so putting the ports down firing like a inch or 2 off the floor would probally be a bad thing, so I would be doing what you are talking about.

didn't mean to, sorry colt just was arguing w/ a friend today about the box design i suggested this, while he insisted the port had to be the same side as the sub seemed all to similiar, thanks

Just looking for some suggestions before I go cutting this Bish!

well i own a explorer and had the best luck so far firing off the hatch , that being said the sub placement boils down to what looks better to you amp on top of the box or next to the port or not even in view. Whatever looks copesetic (i know spelled that wrong) to you
