Which TC Sounds Sub FTW?>

If you order either one of them, make sure TC puts it in a WOODEN crate. Just yesterday somebody was showing pics of a new 15 from TC that was packaged in a cardboard box with 4 small pieces of foam at the bottom. No wood, at all. It was beat to hell by the time it got to his house, obviously. Outrageous if you ask me.
That foam, is a very flexible and dense polyurethane custom insert we had designed in replacement of the crate that adds to the shipping weight considerably. The foam is heated up and it melts to itself and to the cardboard so it locks in place. It was designed by a professional packaging engineer that we consulted with. In fact the foam costs about as much as the crate and holds the driver more secure. The problem is someone from fedex opened or broke the box open. The packing did not fail, but the box did, which is no weak box either. Its double thick walls stapled together.. very heavy duty. The plastic from the woofer was removed, which is taped onto itself. I'm not even sure how you remove that from inside a box to be honest. And the woofer was dragged on concrete on virtually on sides. We have boxed dozens on LMS's that was, it was the first and to my knowledge, only one that failed. The wooden crate caused more trouble than it was worth and it was difficult to secure the woofers inside.

Rawr-DQ, you're looking at your new driver, It went out a few hours ago.

Yeah no insult either, but a wooden crate still seems alot more sturdy. That's alot more foam than was pictured as arriving in Rawr's box, but even so... I dont see that being as strong as a crate.

Im not sure why it was any harder to 'foam' the driver inside the wooden crate than it is to do so in a cardboard box now.

I assume the 'professional packaging engineer' just did some stress testing given the citeria in thsi situation. I cant imagine it took a pro to design a few stacked pieces of foam.

Many heavy and expensive industrial pieces I receive for work come in crates, or box, that have been filled with expanding foam, inside plastic bags to protect the product. Ive found that protects a product VERY well, even when the outside membrane (box or crate) has been damaged. Something to consider maybe.
