Which sub setup to match system

I have a decision to make and I need some input on which way to go...

I am planning on getting these for the front doors

http://www.woofersetc.com/p6201/CTX65CS--Image-Dynamics-65"-Component-Speaker-System.htm

and either their coaxial set for the rears or just leave the door speakers I have back there (midrange 200w max, 100w RMS brand: Soundwave)

This is going into a 2005 4 door Dodge Ram 1500 and I have a hotbox (sub box that replaces the center front seat that has the exact space needed for the 10" Type R that I have in it (500w RMS)

Question is I purchased an amp that I thought would be good for it

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-aoI8uE2onrx/p_500MRP1000/Alpine-MRP-M1000.html

because people told me to turn the gain down and itll work... well I got to doing some research and it turns out the gain is NOT volume you can turn up or down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

So now I have a 500w RMS 10" Type R and a 1000w Amp... should I sell this amp and just get a 500.1 amp, or should i try and sell the sub and get a sub that will handle the 1000w RMS @ 2ohm. If I should get a new sub, would it be too overpowering for the ID's getting about 100w each to them?

Thanks in advance, Im not sure which route to take on this so im asking the pros //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well first of all, nice choice for your front stage. I'm going to be getting them soon myself. How much power do you have to amp them? You do have a seperate amp for you front stage right? Next, that alpine is a solid amp. I would keep it. That type r will be fine as long as you adjust your gains acordingly. Gain is voltage, that will be powering your sub. That amp will make your type R pound. It is always better to have more power from you amp than less. It will leave you room for a upgrade if you want in the future. That setup should be a good one, just properly set your gains. You will be just fine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

How do I know how high to set the gain? i know with speakers, you set the HU at flat (0 bass and 0 treble) and turn your HU volume up to as loud as you normally can stand it, then adjust your gains until it distorts then turn it back some... now do I use the same theory with the subs? How do I know when the sub distorts?

Same thing does apply. With your setup a good starting point with your SUB amp would be about half way on your gains, and work your way from their. I would set your LPF at 80 htz. You can also adjust your amp to where your front stage and sub stage balance each other. Of course it you have a head unit that has time alignment feature, you can adjust it from there. Good luck! Remember, a good system involves alot of fine tuning, which takes time, so try to be patient.

Doesnt sound familiar that I have that feature... this is what im working with

i think its basically a 9884 with the ability to turn the buttons from blue to red (to match the truck)

Thanks for the help, now I dont have to worry about getting a new sub OR amp!
