Which Speakers? Boss P65.4C or Rockford Fosgate R165x3? Help me choose, please.

If cost and install space are a serious concern and you are in Canada, these little guys can do a pretty good job of powering your coaxials.Full range class-D, 45x4 rms and warranty at your local Walmart.

Thanks Stones. That does look like a great little amp and probably would have been perfect for my wee Yaris. I had a set of Scosche 5,25s in the dash of another vehicle. I was impressed by the price/performance ratio. They sounded cyrstal clean and actually produced a wee bit of audible bass. I think Scosche is a decent low budget brand. I bought a couple of Scosche wiring kits and they contained very good hardware and the wire gauge looked like actual AWG size, not the thin wire/thick insulation stuff found on some cheap kits.

Here is the guts for the Scosche HDMA504i

It has a 30amp inline fuse and the power supply uses 2 35v 2200uf 105c capacitors from Micon's KM series.

So far I have tested mine on the work bench with an old 12v battery and a set of Samsung home theater 4ohm speakers, it was able to drive the speakers to maximum before clipping (point of clipping determined with test tones), so the manufacturer rating seems accurate. overall, I am impressed with what these little class d amps can do these days, a 50x4rms amp in the late 90's would run in the hundreds of dollars and be the size of a cake.

Thanks! I notice that the Scosche 4-channel amp is unavailable online. Given your 'review' and my previous experience with Scosche, I likely would have bought one of those amps. I am optimistic, though, that the Dual digital low profile amp I bought will work out well. I appreciate the help.

whatever's on that amp dyno does not translate to any of their other lines. That particular amp is outsourced from korea, not china. The ones you are looking at is pure chinese junk. There's good amps and speakers out there and you arent looking at them. You can definitely do a lot of things with a low budget if you do it right. No one in here is telling you to buy 500 dollar amps and speakers but we do steer you away from potential brick doorstops that usually break and fail within a week or two or give HORRIBLE performance for the money.
Speaker ratings doesnt matter anywhere near as the TS parameters, sensitivity and frequency response along with contructed materials.
The one in his link is also Korean made. Dual had several amp lines made in Korea... I tested two of their monoblocks, overrated yes... Junk no.

Also I have a Dual XPR82D here now... you will be surprised at it's dyno vs. price, and I hooked it up to my tower speakers in my test area which are fairly high end and the sound was actually pretty good... especially for $59. Ran it it bridged at 8 ohms and it could hang with my Crown x1000 and never got warm. I'm pretty impressed.

An interesting thing I found about the HDMA504i is that it is only sold in select markets and is not listed on Scosche's website, this strongly suggests that the amplifier is manufactured by another company under contract with Scosche (a slightly custom rebadged board design).

With some searching I found that the HDMA504i's share the same design as the Axxera ultra slim series. Axxera is owned by Dual meaning that the Scosche mini amps are likely made by Dual's build house then labeled as Scosche.

Hi All.
Looking for opinions if you're willing.

A little background...

I am building very much a budget system for my teeny tiny 2006 Toyota Yaris RS 5-door hatchback. I will be adding some sound deadening material to the doors and a few other spots.

The head unit is a factory fit Chinese Android 6.1. This will be my 5th factory fit Android unit (I change cars a lot, lol) and I have had no issues with the exception of one touchscreen failure.

I have built similar systems in my cars and I know they are not 'audiophile grade' but I have been able to achieve pretty respectable results using the PowerAmp digital processing app EQ and other settings.

Basically, below is my system and I can't decide on which speakers to use with it, though something tells me to go with the Rockford Fosgates. I actually have 2 pairs each of the Rockford Fosgates and the Boss speakers sitting on the table next to me. Whichever sets don't get used, go up for sale on kijiji classifieds.

Here is my question: The Boss speakers appear to be able to handle more power and my amp is rated at 100 RMS/channel. The Fosgates are rated at 45w RMS. I can adjust the gain on my amp of course, but given the two choices, which would you pick? And why? The above said, I ran a set of the same series Boss speakers in a 5.25 dash configuration in an older van and they sounded quite good actually.

I welcome any opinons regarding speaker selection for those willing to offer them. I have read reviews on both speakers but am also looking for any experience you may have had with either.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, bigblank69. I'm feeling more confident about the Dual amp.

Awesome information. Thanks very much!

Will do. In fact, I listed the Boss PC65.4Cs on the classifieds and already have a buyer - 2 pairs for $75.00 CAD - my cost. I'm looking forward to hearing the RF speakers, though I won't start installation until the spring - probably late May.

Thanks.
