definitely not in the same class. if you are on a limited budget get the R's

otherwise its no question for the RL-P

I heard two 12" Type R's in a pre-fab ported box at Best Buy and wasnt impressed at all. but I can hardly blame that on the subs. Im sure in the right setup they would be great. I havnt heard the rl-p's but I would go with the Type R's just because I could never spend $500 on just two subs.

5 to 1 is far from getting owned. Most folks on this forum are anti-mainstream anything (i.e. Alpine, Kicker, Phoenix Gold)! The Soundsplinters are going to win no matter how awesome the Type R's are.

its not really a big price difference guys... 500 shipped or so for the rl-p's and like 470 for the type r's off ebay. it isnt to much of a budget buy.

i've heard older type r's (they were recently sitting in my attic, until finally sold) and they can indeed get loud. but i've not heard the 05's....

but there is something to be said about the sql of the rl-p. maybe not the loudest driver available (but i'd still run them h2h with just about anything), but **** they do sound good at all volumes! and for the price difference, ur getting mike's customer service, which alpine isn't going to match.

The mainstream isn't bad sometimes, just usually too **** expensive at retail prices.

i was actually impressed with the bass coming from 2 type Rs in a ported box at best buy, it was pretty loud and pretty clear too, but it was still in a q logic box, but still i can tell they had potential

How a sub system sounds in a giant building like a BestBuy has virtually no relevance to in-car performance. All those crappy BB setup's sound deep and loud in those buildings.
