Which JL subs to roll with.

Hey, I am a die hard JL owner. I am in Iraq and am switching up my system when I get back. I currently have 2 12 W7s running off of 2 xtant x1001s. It sounds great but I am switching things up. I ordered 2 jl 1000/1s and am getting some different subs. I need help deciding. 4 w6v2 12 or 13.5s, 4 w7 10s or 6 w6v2 10s. I have almost unlimited space since I am cutting the bed for a blowthrough in my silverado. All of the above sub combos will be powered about right for the RMS rating. I just can't decide which will hit the hardest while still maintaining the SQ. I am going to vent which ever setup I run with. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

i personally dont believe in running more than 2 subwoofers, unless you are going straight SPL or running a HUGE amount of power. so i'd go with the 13w7's . the 12 w7's you already have are probably good enough, no need to upgrade for the extra 1.5 inchs..... its not worth it IMO. considering 1) you probably cant sell the subs for what you bought them for and 2) JL w7's are very expensive. you are going to have to shell out alot of cash just to upgrade.

why not build some nasty ported box for them?

that will more effectivly increase the SPL ALOT of your vehicle and the sq will stay about the same i would imagine.

and do a blowthrough, make a wall with the subs in it, and build the box in the bed and port the subs out the top\middle\sides\bottom of the wall toward the cab...

that would be very stealth and incredibly sweet. i hope you have a hard cover in your truck tho. man... now that i think about it, that would look incredibly sweet, espically if you welded some sheet metal in the trunk to cover the box and paint it your truck color- it would make it a very safe place to have subs.. hard to see inside, and hard to steal if you put some security screws in the subs.... oh man. now i want a truck to make a blowthrough. *sigh*

money well spent there my friend. dont upgrade subs, the new amps will make it louder\better.. just port them.

i bet they are sealed eh?

If I were you I'd just add two more 12W7's since you already have two. That way you do not have to worry about taking a loss on the used 12W7's.

The new amps will provide 1000watts rms each and each sub will handle 750RMS.

This setup will have 1000watts going to 2 subs that can handle1500 watts between the two of them and remember that depending on box size your subs could easily reach Xmax at half their rated power. I would rather run more subs at 1/2 to 3/4's of their rated rms than to run fewer or lesser subs to their max rms. You will get more out of a subs first 500 watts than the second 500 watts.

Take a look at Adire's chart for power/xmax/box size. This is not the same for every speaker but it does make a good point.

that PDF looks to be for a sealed box? where is the ported pdf?

im interested in the stats for a ported 1.2ft^3@37hz - how many watts to XMAX.

but anyway, just port the subs in a wall\blowthrough. just make the box small enuf to spec so that the 1000w will reach xmax and not bottom out the sub.

I did not see one for the ported enclosures but I assume that it works the same way but the tuning and port size etc would come into play making it more complicated. I would email Adire and the tech folks could give you a good idea.

I am running the 12 W7's vented. I haven't had a sealed box on my subs since I was in like 16. I love the vented/ ported bass. The money isn't an issue. I figure that with the jl amps and the right box I will be able to run the 4 w7 10's pretty eficiently. I do want an SPL system with high sq. I am going with atleast 4 subs. I would get more for the money if I were to get 10 w7's. My goal is to hit in the mid to high 150s while still being able to enjoy the fidelity of the subs. I have to stay ahead of all of the other people in my Batallion. I am top dog as of the time we left but everyone is getting new stuff when we get back and I must remain on top. I saw a truck online and that truck was killer. It had 8 xxx 12's and it hit pretty hard. I also saw a truck that had 4 H2's and it hit like 157.9. I want to be in that leavel but want to stay with JL. I have always had great luck with JL. You get what you pay for.

I am still leaning tward either the 4 13 w6v2's or the 4 10 w7's. The power I have right now is perfect to run one of these two setups at RMS. Has anyone heard how the 10 w7's sound?

I just bought another jl 1000/1 so I have decided to go with 3 W7 13's. This should be plenty loud with the JL soundquality we have all come to love. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I have a JL 13w7 running off of a JBL 1200 watt amp, in a 2.5^3 box tuned to 30hz, and it just takes peoples' breath away...3 13w7s + 3 1000/1 = death... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif Good Lord...

Well I am glad that you think this will work and I **** sure hope this is above my standard. When I get back from Iraq I will give you guys some #s on what these will do. Oh and trust... they will be vented.
