Which is the better choice IDQ10 or SI Mag?

I'm building a simple system and was planning on running a single sealed 10". I was looking at a Dayton HO but now I've got my heart set on an IDQ10.

I'm looking for clean tight bass more SQ than SPL. I've always felt this was best achieved with a smaller sub (10" or less) I know this probably wrong but I've always associated 12" and 15" subs with looser, sloppier bass not able to keep up with quick drum beats.

Now I've been reading a lot about the new SI Mag and I'm really liking what I've read.

Maybe this sub would be a win - win for me, nice clean sound and a sub that may dig a little deeper than the IDQ10.

So what are your opinions + or - of these two choices.

Thanks

1st ,which IDQ version are u comparing,v.2 or v.3?.....& 2nd ,12 & 15's can be tight & accurate as any good 10.I'm currently running a IDQ12v.2 & ran a IDQ15v.2 at one time, let me tell u they wont disappoint.I had a older Mag(CLAW BASKET)which I really liked but can't comment the new one but I think it wont disappoint as well. The Dayton HO I never heard but read good things. I own a Dayton Quattro 12'' which is really efficient & sounds good in small sealed enclosures w/300watts.I keep the Quattro as back up either for the car or HT.

I was looking at a IDQ10 V3? The newest version.

I heard a lot of good things about the HO as well. The only problem is that it's only available in 4 ohm and I was planning on running 5 channel amp probably an Eclipse XA 5000 or kicker 700.5 and bridge the front channels to a set of RSD's and then the sub channel would give me about 300 to 400 watts.

I've heard that the HO's sealed are quite power hungry. (600 watts) I'd rather not run two amps. Everyone says you'll want to port it to reach it's true potential and then you need a box with a crazy long external port. It's just too much hassle.

You make a good point if I'm willing to go to 12" then I guess I need to consider the IDQ 12 as well.

Too many choices //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Thanks for your input.

There really is lol. I love my mag v4, absolutely transparent and blends perfectly. Little low on output from what I have noticed though, but I haven't really pushed it to just wang.

I haven't listened to an IDQ but it was probably #2 or 3 on my list before I got the mag, I would still love to hear one even a V2 15"

this was just talked about...simple search would show you this

I've read that and it's not real helpful a couple votes each way and someone compairing an ID.

I was looking at compairison from the 10" IDQ to the 12" SI Mag. What would I lose going up to the 12" tightness, quickness, SQ?

Thanks No Traction I will check out the SI forum I didn't know they had one. Sometime I shy away from manufacturer forums because they can be so bias.

The size of the driver doesn't dictate tightness, it has more to do with inductance than anything else. If you want to read why, read this paper.

I thought there was a recent post about this on DIYMA, but it was on the v2 vs Mag also. monkeybutt had this to say over on DIYMA:

Then you have been misled. In head to head ACTUAL comparisons of an IDQv2, DIYMA12 and Magv4 in two of my vehicles it is obvious that they are all at least very good SQ subs. That is the IDQ is very good as it allows easy box set up and good blending at about 70 to 80 hz LP. After going through RF Audiophiles and Soundstream Exacts, the IDQs have satisfied me for several years. The DIYMA in .625 cuft. is a notch above the IDQ in bass articulation and goes just as deep. Blending is good in my car at 100hz 24db/oct, but oddly was a bit hard to zero in and sounded a bit muddy at lower 70 to 80hz LP. The Mag digs deeper than either of these and the bass articulation is the best I have ever heard. Indeed it does play up well and was successfully blended at 70, 80, 100 and 120 hz LP - I now have it at 100 HZ. With the IDQ and DIYMA I have needed to EQ in a bit of boost at 63 to 70 hz to attain optimal bass impact due to car transfer. The Mag I leave flat. The cool thing about the Mag is that while it does have superb SQ it can also play low w/ authority. Driving back from a hot trail run yesterday, all the windows were uncharacteristically down yet 'So Many Tears' was reproduced w/ a presence that was just smile inducing.
And here is the link to the same discussion on the SI forum.
