I now have 2 Alpine type R's...swr-1021d...I have them in a sealed box. I have designed a ported box tuned to 32hz. Just want to check to see if I'm doing this right...Heres what I got.

it will be two seperate boxes as follows...

Height---10"

width---15"

depth---23 1/4"

# of ports---1

Port diameter---3"

sq port ratio H:W=1

gross box volumn---1.294^3

net box volumn---1.242^3

Port length---12.725"

Port area---7.069^2

port volumn---0.052^3

Square port dimensions---Height=2.659"

Width=2.659"

will this be ok for these subs. The recommended volumn (ported) is 1.25^3 per sub. Would these subs react better to the sealed or ported enclosure? Any help will be appreciated.

I didn't run the numbers - but so long as that checks out with someone else, I'll say that everything else is fine. I was gonna say something about the port size being so small, but now I see that they're fine because you're running 10's.

Maybe you shouldn't have "Port Diameter" if it's not a round port... diameter infers that the port is a circle, but you say later in the post that it's a 3"x3" square.

On second thought that might not be enough port area.... but I don't know, let someone else help you out there.

Then you probably have the tuning correct...

but honestly when it comes to ports, if you don't have enough area on your port you are going to get a lot of port noise - basically a noise of too much air trying to get through too small of an opening.

i really don't know how 9 square inches of port would do - it might be sufficient, but it might not be enough. That's what I would like someone else to say: if 9 square inches of port is enough for his specific subwoofer

I tried to find out how to tune a box using the technique most people in here use... the one with the port or vent running the height of the box---going down one side and across the back side of the box, but i couldnt find out how to design it. This is really what im looking for.

Well... on a piece of paper draw a "top view" of the enclosure... make a rectangle, and then coming from the same side that you are putting your sub on, draw a 2" wide port on the left or right side.

OK say you have a box that is 15" wide, 10" tall, and 23" deep... On the left of the face of the box you'll have a port that is...

well, nevermind.

Well basically you were gonna do a square port in the middle of the baffle... Move the square port over to the side, and extend it from the top to the bottom of the box. It's the same thing but different.
