midbass opinions.....

ok, i have the low end of the bass frequency spectrum covered by the 15 XXX....but i need midbass too...........

i have a 4ch memphis that does 75x4@4ohms and i can unbridge my compo nents and run them off one channel each leaving me with 2 channels.....

i ws looking at some used RE 8inch mid woofers that are DVC4ohm, so i could hook them up at 2ohms to each of the extra channels......how would these perform with 115watts each?? should i port them or keep them sealed? anythign better thats $40 or less??

RE's are not built to run midbass. I think you would be unhappy with their performance. You'd be better off with a driver that handles the upper bass better, like koda 8's, or xxx 6.5's.

I love my XXX6.5's but 75w x 2 won't be enough for them to get loud off of.

DLS sets dont need too much power and have nice midbass. Im not sure if you want a comp set or only a pair of mids. If you only want mids I would probably go with the Kodas or maybe some Image Dynamics.

As mentioned, the RE8 isn't a midbass (don't know why everyone automatically assumes that it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif ) . However, judging by that comment I quoted, I'm assuming you are working with a budget that won't allow for XXX6.5's or DLS Iridium mids. In which case, look into brands like Vifa and Peerless.

yeah vifa PL's have good midbass, they are kind of inefficient though. IMO i would look for a 2nd amp to run the midbass. I normally run alot more power to my dedicated midbass's (when i run them, not using them now) then my dedicated midrange/tweets.

Cause you can get 4ohm vifa PL's for $50 used, then buy a used not so popular but quality 200w x 2 amp off ebay or something. Like an Aura amp, or older Orion Cobalt or Xtr series etc.
