from what i understand...mobile centrino rated at 1.73 is a better chip than the 2.5pentium 4. hence i got a 1.6 version in my laptop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What's an intel chip doing in a Mac? A whole lot more than it ever did in a PC. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

if you really want to compare those chips, check 'sisoftsandra' results, and other benchtests.

then again, it's likely that whetstone tests aren't doing to reflect what you're really doing with the computer anyway.

There is more to it than a hard yes/no answer.

For most things the M at 1.73 is better. If it's a laptop than IMO it's a necessity for power consumption. The M actually dopes more per cycle. The 4 just bullies it's way through with power.

I was thinking on performance levels the M would be better. I thought I would get your opinions. My parents are going to be buying me a new laptop for a graduation present! So im looking and comparing prices and specs, doin my homework on it.

My current laptop just went out too, im so sad. It was an older (2000) Toshiba Tecra 8100 PIII @ 600mhz. I keep it running clean, until the system board went out, aperently it shorted in the main power line, and now its gone. Luckily, I still have my HDD, i just need a hdd size adapter so I can run my OS and settings on this desktop comp until I get my new laptop, which wont be for another 6 weeks.

The PM will be faster and use less power = longer battery life. I have a 1.86pm.. great chip..and they can be under volted to get even better battery life. Not sure if you can undervolt the p4 with as much success.

when the p4 hit, it required an additional voltagerail and the entire ATX specification had to be modified / updated.

Powerhungry, and hot.
