which box is generally louder?

In a SUV which type of box generally gets louder..a box with the port facing back away from the cabin and the sub facing up, or with the port facing up and the sub facing back, or with the port and sub both facing back

Different suv's and different setups like different firing positions. There really isn't an exact answer. But, for the most part you'll see ports firing back towards the rear.

sub up port back is usually good, some like subs to the side or ports to the side, just depends on which vehicle and what your looking to achieve

The most universal would have to be subs up and port back, though some variations can/will yield higher performance.

But if you want to stick to one proven design rather than trying all different kinds of boxes, subs up and ports back is the way to go.

I'd agree sub up port back usually works best, but Ive found sub back port back at least 6" from the back works well too but this could be very vehicle dependent. I would try both and see what you like more if you can, if not just go sub up port back.

I wouldn't think there would be enough volume for air to move external to the port if it faced back in and extended cab truck. I would give that a NO and say port up sub up would most likely be your best bet.

My Durango likes subs up, ports up.

In my RAV4....definitely sub back (I've had sub back port back and sub back port up -- doesn't seem to matter)...

Sub up port back still hit good but not quite as good...

Actually since I have an EPIC-150 I just used that to see the difference...sub back was consistently 1 db louder...
