where do yall get HO alternators from?

hey guys,

I am searching a better alternator than my current gm 100a or 120a

not shure wich one it is, but its old - and im getting down lower than 13.5's now

and think its time to upgrade, as my alt'y might be on its way out.

some times at idle i will get 13.6v insted of 14.2 like when I first start up car.

when driving around playing music loud - I can even drop to 13v or less.

I see most people on the boards are using High Output alts

have seen some on summit racing from Power Master, but ther like $450

wich is way out of the question right now.

have also seen people say they got them for like $200 or so -

wich I can swing right now.

so where do yall get em from ? - who is making them?

im searching for a alternator that will put out around 150a to 200a

my system is 2 amps - totaling 1500watts or so.

single optima yellow top up front - with big 3 done.

( also concidering adding a second battery, like kenitic or / powermaster

in my rear cargo bins - but that might be a ways off. )

if it makes any diffrence - my car is 1984 chevy corvette.

ALTERNATOR CASE STYLE = GM 10si

thanks all in advance for any light you can shed my way.

Contact MECHMAN. He'll hook you up with what you need. I've yet to read anything but good things about them and the prices he quoted me were much better than other quality alternator companies.

I went local for mine, only a bit more than a standard rebuild. If you want a custom case mechman has those. I have a large case Gm core I am going to make fit with some brackets some day (warm weather). The large case Gm my re builder said he can get it up to 200 amps with still a good idle output. I tried DBelectric and they pissed me off only 150 amps at 3000 rpm and 70 idle. rated 200 and 105 at idle.

I dont realley have room anywhere on my car for a second battery.

exept in the rear storage compartments behind my seats.

in the cabbin of the car. they are small enough to fit 2 smaller "motorcycle"

batterys inside. but - my box will completely cover them, so they will have no axess

once setup. dont realley like the idea of not having axess to batterys in the cab of my car.

have big 3 done. and also extra ground to ****** wire also just cause.

ground wires are all tied in verry well. I use dremel to clean off the metal.

my voltage in car at engine idle with no stereo on / or headlights / wipers

is 14.1 when I first start the car up. ( engine cold )

once engine is up to opperating temps - I hardly ever see voltage above 13.8

even with no accesorys on ? - voltage is verry low. -

wich leads me to believe my alty is on its way out.

its old and oxidized - looks like its lived a hard life. haha.

just talked to the guy from dc power inc. he can make me a custom alt that gives 140a

at engine idle. / 220a at + rpms = for a good price I believe. $330 or so I think he said.

might see if I can rub the pennies together enough to swing that one.
