Where did I screw up!!!!!!!!!

Well I recently installed some Rainbow slc265 comps and I just got my amp a zx350.2 and decided to hook it up real quick to see if there working. Well I get it in there hook everything up and turn up the volume. The comps sound fine untill I get the gain on the amp to a little less than half then they shut off and cut in and out every 10 seconds. I have no Idea what is wrong. But the only thing I noticed was that after like 10 mins of this the amp is extremely hot!!!! Is the amp bad? Please tell me its not.

You're probably clipping the amp when it cuts off......

What load you showing it? Sounds like clipping...

Got it hooked up to the two crossovers so thats a 4-ohm load. I still can't it out I've been lookin at it and I just dunno.

sounds like an amp problem, low voltage, heat, somehting like that

What do you guys think I should do I checked all the connections (there fine), turned the HU setting down, then tryed the turn up the gain slowly and right before the half way mark its shuts off then cuts in and out.......is it a bad amp?

Are you using the new '06 Kicker ZX series? I had the same exact problem with a 06 zx700.5 and the Rainbow SLC. The difference is that I am trying to tap into a factory bose system, so things are a little more complicated.

Since you are running an aftermarket HU, the signal SHOULD be fine. Do you have access to a multimeter? First check your impedance at the amp terminal to make sure you are seeing 4-ohm (or around there). Next check your remote turn on voltage, when the amp is powered, it should stay above 12V all the time.

I suggest you bring it to a shop. I tried to diagnosis thing myself, end up blowing the SLC and the Kicker amp. First it was cutting in an out, just like what yours is doing, the LED switched between red and green. And later it stayed red, and wouldn't get out. So yeah, I am pretty pissed off. Amp is under warranty by onlinecarstereo.com, they say it will take about 4 week to get it back to me. 6spcoupe is looking at the SLC to see if he can replace it for me. But yeah, when I get all my gear back. I'll definately bring it to a shop. **** with an Arsenal 12 all nicely done in a fiberglass box and no power or speaker!!

Wow I really hope I won't have the same problem as you did. I am going to look into a lot more tommorrow and mabey make a few calls, but if none of it works I'll bring it to the local shop and they can fix it.

try the amp on different speakers or sub and see

yeah.........my whole system and truck is screwed up now..........the speakers put out noise when the windows go down........horrible whinning(prolly alternator)..........ampp goes into protect every few seconds.......when the amp does work the speakers cut in and out......can;t turn the gain past half..........the subs are fawked up now they wont play right......im just gonna take it to a shop im done messing wit it.
