When Picking Drivers?

-diameter

-depth

-recommended enclosure size

-recommended enclosure type

-RMS

-voice coil configuration

-reputation

-looks (I mostly just avoid chrome)

-lowest Fs(I hate the sound of a sub with a 32hz fs... you have to tune too high..)

-most useable for my application

-long useable throw

-good reliability

-must NOT fatigue over time

Specifics depend on the application. Either mid to high Q, long throw, preferably with a linear BL approach, low Fs, or low Q, high BL^2/Re.

And a good company pedigree.

It depends on my application but usually something with a good build quality from a reputable company, decent to long throw, low to mid Q, mid to low Vas, low inductance, high motor force, and a plain and simple face approach (ie: Dayton drivers).

If I'm wanting a setup with thick low end, I want a low Fs, mid Q, higherish Vas, long throw, low inductance, and a simple look to them. A linear BL approach would be nice as well as Neil mentioned.
