When is a box TOO big?

Ok, story. I'm buying a 10" Dual XS10 or something from BB for $13 new. I want to build a big box for it and make it as loud as i possibly can, before then blowing it in an insane way.

I have WinISD (anyone got a place to get BBP?), how do i figure out on my own what figures to look at on the box to see where it would be the loudest? I'm talking cu ft.

Obviously it doesnt need a HUGE box, but what goes wrong when the box is too big? Over excursion? Is that it? I just want to be able to go into WinISD and make a box on there that'll be loud as hell for this sub, without having to look at reccomended airspace and all that.

oh, im getting one.

I guess I'm trying to say maybe not specifically BIG, but say going from the reccomended airspace, when does it stop sounding good and what computed figure tells you that?

Not necesarily, IB can be done with certain drivers

Thanks guys, I'm well aware that Dual is crap. You guys are really providing some useful information in telling me that a $13 subwoofer is crap.

I'm doing it for fun. And if I blow a $13 sub? Who the hell cares about it.

It depends on how much power you will be feeding it. If its too big, it can reach over-excursion too quickly if you have enough power.

hey i remember back in the day i had urban audio work 12's i bought at hills (old school k-mart) and in the rite box anything can pound. its just amatter of how long they will last mine pounded my k-cars trunk when i was 16.

i'm building a 5 cu ft box (after displacement) tuned to 29 with 95 sq in of port.

it should be fun, not expecting much, just something to do
