Also, not exactly a solo (it is kind of like dueling acoustics, which is sweet) but the end part of Avenged Sevenfold's Sidewinder is awesome.

And whoever said that playing guitar raises your awareness for how amazing these solos are is totally right. I just started playing two years ago and listening to some of this stuff since then, it blows my mind hearing these guitar solos.

Oh yes. One of the best solos ever, and it's all fingerstyle. Brothers In Arms and Down to the Waterline are awesome too. It's not just fast, it moves you.

I like the solos In Flames used to crank out... Only For The Weak, Coerced Existence, Satellites and Astronauts... solos in metal are pretty common (though less so today).

Freebird is WAY overplayed...it was great back in the day but now it just seems very basic.

don't blame a good song for being "basic" b/c radio stations overplay it.
