What's wrong with my W7?

Hmm, well this is intersting. I went to Good Guys today to look at some computer hard drives, and after I went into their car audio section. They had some good clean bass running, so I went in to see what sub it was and it was a 12W7 in the JL sealed box. It was nice and deep and hit hard at very low volumes considering it was in a big room too. I looked at the amp to figure out what was powering it and it was a JL 500/1.

Now this is what I don't understand. I have the same exact sub, but mine is in a 1.5ft^3 ported box tuned to 32Hz (forgot) and it seems as though the W7 sounds better and sounds deeper than my ported box with 750W (BEtter Audio 1600M1) to the sub. I don't understand? Is the power from the 500/1 that clean or have I set my gains or done something wrong with my 12W7. I am very very close in selling my 12W7, but I would like to get it like I heard it in Good Guys.

yeah you really need to design the right box for that sub cuz it's definitely picky on what it likes.

so there speakers sound perfect in it

Ok, well lets change environment back to the car.

My friend has a Grand Cherokee with 12W7 in JL HO box and Tantrum. He puts on God Loves Ugly by Atmosphere, and this absolutly pounds so hard, my hair is virbrating and my clothes are fluttering. This is what I want with my 12W7, but for some reason, I haven't attained this. How come? Is it cause I only have 750W going to it, or maybe my gains are set wrong/too low?
