Ergh, that's too much money. I think I'll just see how this sounds and if I want to change it, I'll do the calculations and change the capacitors/inductors if I need to. I'm an electrical engineer so I have plenty of parts.
You can't just do that... I spent about a month designing and tweaking the component sets that I sell using the Dayton RS 7" Midwoofer and the Dayton RS tweeter... and I'm hardly a stranger to xover design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif
Those RS drivers are the least well behaved drivers that I have ever worked with... period... I've heard many reports of people trying to run them active and thinking the midrange sounds crummy... due to their horrible failure in tuning them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
BTW Dayton RS in my book are better than any Focal I have ever heard... Never heard the Focal Be drivers though...
Also goldwood is fairly nice for the money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- good budget units... Infact I kind of want to make a component set with those and the Dayton RS Neo tweeter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif PS they are rly about 2dB less efficent than PE says... check out the frequency response graph... I don't know people may end up liking the peaky response more... toggle switch anyone -- peaky over 1.5khz vs... more linear? I may be able to keep the xovers pretty simple and inexpensive... talk about low parts costs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Ran 4th order or higher -- active -- 1.6khz xover point -- 31 bands of EQ (for each driver is best) and knowing whats going on would be awesome.... but costly...
A properly designed passive network though = almost as good and saves you a lot of time and money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
If you are capable of assembling the xover yourself that would save you even more money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- however I doubt that your part sources and piles of stuff you have laying about -- will get you the parts you need... madisound or
