Whats up with local shops

Today i just finished making my new enclosure for my death penalty 15s. I really really dont like carpeting so i call up a local shop and ask how much they charge to carpet it for me. The guy told me 20bux so i figured i'd go ahead and pay it. I get to the shop and pop my hatch up. He looks at the box and tells me how its not going to hit hard because its made out of 1.5 inch MDF. says that its too sturdy now and said that the box is suppose to give off sound. Now its going to be quiet.

Then he asks how big are the screws i used. Well when i was bonding the 3/4 mdf together i used 1 5/8 screws. And far as the box assembly i just used alot of titebond II wood glue. He starts telling me how my box is gonna break apart because i only glued it and didnt screw it. And that i made alot of mistakes and such.

Then he looks down at my port. Which is 111 sq inches. Suppose to been 120 but i had my g/f helping me out and she glued the vent sides to the wrong part knocking it off by 1.5 inch. So its 6in high and 18.5 inches long. He tells me by port is way too big. says it should only be 2inches high by 18.5in long.

I wonder how in the hell he run a box building business. I mean dang. I've built enclosures before, im no expert but i do tons of research before i attempt any install. So i gave him his 20bux and was like, just carpet the box. When i get everything up and going your shop will be one of the first places imma go too.

By the way, not to mention he asks what subs and amp im running. i told him, he was like u are running off brand subs and an off brand amp with this messed up enclosure and you expect it to hit hard? Im thinking IA Death Penalty 15s tuned to 35hz, a IA 20.1 amp......and he wanna talk $hit. anyways this is my ramble for the week. figured i'd give u guys a good laugh

Thats the way it is with a few of the local shops here. Its like, if you dont buy form them, they dont want your business. And they get mad when you show them up with something that is louder and better than what they can do.

Like the one shop here. They sell Audiopipe and he tells me his employee with a ranger like mine has two 15s in it. He says they do a 153. I was like no way.He called my CVRs a pos. So I called him out and we did a spl test. His boy with the ranger did a 131.x and I did a 146.0

Needless to say, he never said another word. lol

Haha. This is so true. I was sitting (an 8 hour wait) in a shop. Some guy had a DD9512 with a good sized box with i think a z1 or something pushing it. He was there for some custom door panel work. Well they didnt mess with his audio system. But i remember him coming in and they asked him what company his amp and sub were from and he said DD. They said they never heard of it and he should of bought a RF T1 instead.

So the car owner walks to his car and just lets it rip. After that, the shop was asking again who DD was but with amazed looks in their faces.

It was funny because before the competition me and the other guy had, he stuck his head in my truck. And he asked me "Is that all this thing has got?" I said "No, lemme turn the SW Level up a lil." I had it set at -15 so I could drive and listen to it without disturbing anyone. You should have seen the look on his face when I set it to where it really shows its potential. He knew he was beat lol

If youre telling me that.....The guy wont even look at me when I go there. He usually makes some excuse to leave and go somewhere. lol. But next time he talks shit I will get it on video

I am getting my Fi Q hooked up this Friday at a local shop since I dont mess with the shit anymore. Well I might have to if they fux up! Then I will be pissed. So hopefully they do it right the first time around. He did ask me (The shop owner) I never heard of Fi before. I said yeah they are new and one of the top guys at RE owns it and he was like well I heard of RE, so must be some good stuff. So good thing I mentioned the RE thing.

Gotta remember that the local guys are trying to make a living, so they WILL look down on anything they didn't sell you. I just try to be polite and don't mention what I have unless they ask.

I picked up a SVR battery a few weeks ago at a local place and the guy was telling me how JL had 11 patents and made the best sub in the world, blah blah. That I needed to use a spectrum analyzer to tune my front stage, etc... Of course he sold JL subs and offered the SA tuning as a service. I wouldn't have played it for him if he asked, NO win situation.

Another shop I frequent for electrical parts is BIG on Alpine stuff and the owner has a car full. 12" Type R ported, Type S comps up front and rear. He offered me a listen so of course I took the opportunity. Highs were insanely shrilly, which could just be some EQing to fix, sub was respectably loud but lacked punch and sure didn't go low. I've definitely heard worse out there, but you'd think the owner's car would be a rolling advertisement.

Owner is a cool guy though, not pushy or a know it all.

I know a guy who owns the local shop. They are cool people. They havent heard of alot of the brand that our on the internet but they dont talk down on them. They sell what makes them the most money and I would to. They do pretty good work had my tvs installed by them. Audiopipe > kicker cvr all install dependent of course

lol its sooo funny to read posts like these about how most shops **** anus. im opening a shop soon, and i love it when people tell me what they have, i mean sure they might not buy from me, but if i learn about a new company, and have a chance to hear new products im all for it, and im gonna have a van built with some super SPL subs eventually, just for showing off what my stuff can do lol, in addition to my car being more SQ oriented. but i agree most shops talk down on something if they didnt sell it to you or put it in.
